Full Obituary

Alberto Menocal was born September 5, 1928 in Havana, Cuba and died December 9, 2004 in Philadelphia, PA. After leaving Havana in the 1950's he lived and traveled all over the world and at one time made his home in Paris, Ibiza, York PA, Abiquiu NM, New York, Chicago (where he met my mother), St. Paul MN and finally Philadelphia. When the need arose he found work in many fields without really finding a carreer. Formal education for my father culminated in a certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1951. He was one of 1,197 Cubans captured in the infamous Bay of Pigs invasion in April, 1961. His artistic legacy includes a fine collection of antiques, a (now dispersed) collection of maps, innumerable prints and paintings of his own, an astounding curio cabinet, a handmade dollhouse representing his childhood home, and most significant: photo albums chronicling our family history. My mother and father met in Chicago and were married December 20, 1970.
